December 16, 2019

Dear Family,                                                                                          December 16, 2019
Our story this week is The Overlanders. We will be creative in our test taking for reading and spelling Thursday. This is a great week to let your child study and read alone. YOU can take a break! I know how busy you must be. Our grades will only help our averages, not hurt. I’m not going into detail about how we will test because I want it to be a surprise to the children.
In math we will learn how to square numbers; identify perfect squares; find the area of a square; simplifying with exponents of 2; writing 3 and 4 digit numbers; using base ten blocks; subtracting 3 and 4; following a recipe; setting a dial; and elapsed time.
Wrapped $10 gift cards and unwrapped baby boy gifts were due today. Please try to send those by Wednesday at the latest.
Tomorrow is the last day to check out a library book. Thursday all library books are due and it’s the last day to take an AR test for the second nine weeks.
Friday is our party at 10:00. We will dismiss at 12:00… no lunch will be served and no extended day will be offered.
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We return to school January 6.
                                                            Teaching and loving yours!
                                                                                    Miss Suzann

December 9, 2019

Dear Family,                                                           December 9, 2019
Reminder we don’t have reading or spelling tests this week. I hope you enjoy the break as much as the students will!
In math, we will learn about cups, tablespoons, and teaspoons; reading a recipe; writing fractions; subtracting a multiple of 10 from a number using mental computation; and estimating differences between two tw0-digit numbers. This is a great time of year to practice measuring and reading recipes! Over the holidays maybe you can fit in some kitchen math. Don’t forget we already know gallons, half gallons, quarts, and pints.
You may know this from the group text last night but just as a reminder… at our party Friday, December 20, we will exchange $10 gift cards. The card should be wrapped and appropriate for a girl or a boy. Amy Watson, bookkeeper in our main office, has SEVERAL $10 gift cards for different fast food restaurants. You are welcome to check with her if you are interested. Each student will also bring an unwrapped baby item to donate to an expectant mother in need. Send both items by Monday, December 16.
                                                Teaching and loving yours,
                                                                   Miss Suzann

December 3, 2019

Dear Family,                                                                                            December 3, 2019
Welcome, December! What a wonderful day we had on Tuesday before our Thanksgiving holidays. Thank you for all the delicious goodies you sent and your time volunteering.
Lakeside’s SGA is filling the pantry for fifteen families this holiday season. Third grade is assigned 1 box cake mix with frosting or 1 brownie mix. You may certainly bring both. There will be an ornament party for Big Chiefs/Little Chiefs Monday, December 16. There is an official announcement included in our binders.
In math this week we will be writing number sentences for “equal-groups”; identifying and drawing lines of symmetry; dividing by 10, by 7, and by 1; and subtracting by 2.
Our story this week is The Harlem Renaissance. Thank you to Harper’s Aunt Becky for sending CD’s of great Big Band music.
Dress rehearsal for our Christmas program is this Wednesday at 12:30. Hayden, Mason, and Porter will need their wisemen costumes and props here that day. I know you are all looking forward to the performance Thursday evening at 6:00.
We are still collecting cylindrical containers for music after the holidays.
                                                Teaching and loving yours,
                                                            Miss Suzann
