Montgomery Zoo Trip

Parents,

Due to the high chance of thunderstorms tomorrow, we are rescheduling the field trip to Friday, October 5th. Please send students to school tomorrow at normal time with their back packs and binders. Thank you so much for your quick responses to my messages. I know we will have a wonderful trip next week, and I look forward to seeing everyone then! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

October 1st-5th

Announcements: 

  • Monday, October 1st is a student holiday. There is no school today. Enjoy your long weekend!
  • I will be sending home field trip forms for the pumpkin patch this week. Please return these as soon as possible and no later than Friday, October 12th. 
  • The last day of AR for the 1st 9 weeks is October 10th. Please encourage students to keep reading and taking tests. I know they are all capable of meeting their goals. If students meet their point and percentage goal, I will give them a bonus 100 in Reading. 
What We Are Learning: 
  • Reading, Grammar, & Spelling: 
    • This week we have a Unit 1 Assessment. It will cover all the topics that we have discussed during our first reading unit. Students will be tested on phonics, grammar, spelling, and a new, short reading comprehension passage. We do not have new spelling, vocabulary, or grammar skills this week. We will be reviewing in class this week.

Announcements:

  • I will send home graded papers from last week as soon as possible. 
  • Pink Out T-shirt orders are due Monday, September 24th. 
  • Our field trip to the Montgomery Zoo is Friday, September 28th. Please remember to be at school, in our classroom, by 7:15 a.m. We will be returning home around 4:30 p.m. Please make alternate plans for your child if they usually ride the van or bus after school. I will send out a reminder about what to wear and bring later this week. I will let you know the where students are riding before we leave on Friday morning. If you are a parent attending this trip, your child will be riding with you. Students will not need their backpacks on Friday. 
  • Our Reading and Spelling Tests will be on Thursday this week.

September 17th- 21st

Announcements: 

  • I will be out of town this week. Please call the school office if you need anything or send me an email. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Mrs. Pam Jones will be subbing Monday- Wednesday. She will be taking over the class when I start maternity leave after Christmas. I truly believe she will do an excellent job. She is a retired elementary teacher, and will be coming and helping in our room often to get to know the students and our routines. 
  • Since I will be out this week, graded papers for this week will go on home on Tuesday of next week instead of Monday. I will need some time to catch up on grading. I will also update the blog when I get back in town over the weekend. Mrs. Pam will pass out papers from last week on September 17th. Please be sure to sign your child's folder. 
  • Please encourage students to keep reading their AR books. We need to work on getting our comprehension percentage to 85%.

Reminders:

  • This week is homecoming! We are going to be participating in some fun and exciting activities, but we need to remind students that we still have real school this week. 
  • We will be taking our reading and spelling tests on Thursday this week. This is because of all the homecoming activities we have planned on Friday. Friday is also a half day. Students will be dismissed at 12 p.m. 
  • Progress reports will be going home this week. Please remember that we will have many more grades. Students should also be about half way to their AR goal at this time. They need to have at least 85% for comprehension as well. 
  • I will be out on Wednesday for a doctor's appointment. Please call the school office if you need anything that day.
