November 18, 2019

Dear Family,                                                                                         November 18, 2019
Tomorrow we have our class picture taken. If you would like a copy, they are $10.95. Checks may be made out to Lifetouch. These must be purchased tomorrow morning.
Remember, you can check grades on iNow. If you’ve misplaced your log-in information, Sherri McClendon in the office can help you.
Our story this week is A New Life for Mei. Vocabulary and spelling words came home Friday. We will learn about adding -ed and -ing to words and review abstract nouns. I love how the skills in Open Court spiral. It’s not a “once and done”!
In math, we will learn to add two digit numbers; estimate when adding; drawing and measuring to the half inch (if you don’t have a ruler at home with centimeters and inches, you may need one); multiplying by 7; locating and naming points on a number line; estimating capacity; and drawing a bar graph. We’ve been discussing cups, pints, quarts, half-gallons, and gallons. This would be a great conversation when you’re in the kitchen or grocery store! You’ll be surprised how much they know!
Speaking of surprises….. they’re learning to read cursive writing. Sooo, be aware of writing surprises, etc. in cursive! And I’m sure you’ve already learned they can understand anything you spell. (Moms, get a tissue. They are growing up.)
Possessives are still a little tricky. We’re learning to find the hints in sentences to decide whether a word is plural or not before we make it a possessive. Example: “The many birds nests were full of twigs.” MANY lets us know it’s more than one bird.
Our pom-pom squad will not cheer December 3 due to the Christmas parade downtown. No practice Dec. 2.
Our lunchroom needs a head count for our feast Tuesday, November 26. Thank to those who sent in money today or regretted.
Loving and Teaching Yours, Miss Suzann
